May is here and there are so many fun events happening in Burnaby! From Rotary Wine and Food Fest to Move for Health Day and more, here are 10 things to do around the city this month.

Youth Week

  • What: Youth Week is a week of fun, cool interaction and celebration intended to build a strong connection between young people and their communities and to profile the issues, accomplishments, and diversity of youth across the province. There will be art and music showcased by Burnaby youth. Fleurs De Villes at Metropolis at Metrotown

  • What: Fleurs De Villes Mannequin Series combines high fashion and fresh florals through inventive and artful displays showcased at Metropolis at Metrotown. Each exhibit features a collection of floral-dressed mannequins, in a gallery-like setting, which grows from a partnership between a local florist and a leading brand.

Burnaby Artisan Farmers’ Market

  • What: Burnaby Artisan Farmers’ Market features locally grown conventional and organic produce, prepared foods and crafts. There will also be live music every week, a used book exchange, a children’s play tent, games table and sitting area with local newspapers. Plus there are also food trucks featuring all kinds of delicious foods to eat right at the market.

17th Annual Rotary Wine and Food Fest

  • What: An evening of wine tasting, culinary delights, and live jazz music to benefit Rotary Coats for Kids Campaign and other community projects. There will also be a silent auction, 50-50 draw, and local craft beer.

Rhododendron Festival

  • What: The City of Burnaby in collaboration with the Burnaby Rhododendron & Gardens promotes the long-term sustainable, ecological health of our communities. It presents a unique venue for both horticulture and arts groups. Events will be held at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and Burnaby Art Gallery.

Move for Health Day

  • What: Free activities are taking place all over Burnaby and everyone is invited. Enjoy the outdoors with an introductory kayak or tennis lesson. Stay indoors and challenge yourself with a TRX class or shake and shimmy your way through a fun belly dancing class. Being active begins with learning how to move and live well, and if you aren’t sure of where or how to start, Dr. Davidcus Wong will be leading an inspirational talk on the benefits of exercise and living an active, healthy lifestyle. Mother’s Day at Burnaby Village Museum

40 Days and 40 Nights

  • What: The project was inspired by a challenge to live for 40 days and 40 nights making all choices based in love, and draws on the magical poetry of Hafez, the philosophy of Alain Badiou, Hindu festivals, Biblical tales, and countless other ruminations on the word “love.” This immersive theatrical experience inspires you to believe, even for a moment, that love is something active and alive in the world. Presented by Electric Theatre Company.
