Burnaby is filled with great events in August! From BC Day, RCMP Musical Ride and more, here are 10 things to do around the city this month.

BC Day Market Monday at Burnaby Village Museum

  • What: Celebrate BC Day and Market Monday at Burnaby Village Museum. Featuring chainsaw carving demonstrations, Lumberjack Show presented by Laughing Logger, Vancouver Circus School, live music and more.
  • When: Monday, August 6, 2018

Movies at Civic Square

  • What: Bring a blanket, find a spot on the lawn and enjoy an outdoor movie on Thursday evenings at Burnaby’s Civic Square. The lineup includes The Lion King (August 9), Mulan (August 16), Cars (August 23) and Coco (August 30).

Family Game Nights

Burnaby Roots & Blues Festival 2018

  • What: Mixing folk and Americana to rock & roll and vintage rhythm & blues, Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats headline this year’s performance. The family-friendly festival will also feature performances by The Rural Alberta Advantage, Nikki Lane, The Suffers, Begonia, and Amythyst Kiah.
  • When: Saturday, August 11, 2018
  • Time: Gates 2 pm, show 3 to 10 pm
  • Where: Deer Lake Park – 6450 Deer Lake Drive, Burnaby

Burnaby Pride Street Party

  • What: Burnaby’s first Pride event recognizes and celebrates the diversity of the LGBTQ2S+ community in Burnaby. Enjoy a full afternoon of live performances, food, activities, and community resources.

  • Time: 12 to 4 pm
  • Where: Jubilee Avenue between Nelson Avenue and Imperial Street

RCMP Musical Ride – Burnaby

  • What: A unique piece of Canadian showmanship with an evening packed with a variety of entertainment, activities and displays. The RCMP Musical Ride features intricate drills and choreography, including the famous “Dome” formation, which was once featured on the back of the Canadian fifty-dollar bill, to the exciting “Charge” movement, where lances are lowered and the riders’ mounts launch into a gallop. Proceeds from ticket sales will help support Cops for Cancer and KidSport Burnaby.

Willingdon’s Annual Community Fair

  • What: Willingdon Community Centre’s annual summer celebration. Carnival games, raffles, barbecue, displays and live entertainment.

Exhibition Opening – Jawahir: Jewels

  • What: Jawahir: Jewels by Durrah Alsaif is an exhibition at the Deer Lake Art Gallery, and is hosted and organized by the Burnaby Arts Council. Through photography, performances, and installations, Alsaif explores the cultural identity between the East and the West as well as the status of women in Saudi Arabia.

Live at the Gallery featuring Chris Blaber and Arthur Delahooke

  • What: Live at the Gallery brings music into the gallery setting, to connect fans of visual and musical arts. The event is an exciting mix of art and sound, from the sweet sounds of classical music to chilled out beats of local folk bands. This month’s concert features artists Chris Blaber and Arthur Delahooke.
