33 Acres Brewing Company may seem like an unlikely spot for a delicious and fulfilling brunch, but if you happen to crave sweet waffles (or savoury for that matter) this is the place to be.
No longer solely a destination for craft beer lovers, 33 Acres, located at 8th Ave and Ontario Street in Mount Pleasant, is fast becoming a food haven of sorts thanks to their simple, yet satisfying, weekend brunch.
Offering a two-item brunch menu, 33 Acres has chosen to maintain quality over quantity and provides patrons with a choice between light and fluffy beer waffles and Avocado Smash – a generous heap of avocado spread atop a gratifyingly thick-cut Nelson the Seagull sourdough slice.
With the temptation of waffles often too good to pass up, brunch goers who do decide upon this dish can look forward to a plate of four fresh, hot waffles.
Accompanied by a jug of warm maple syrup and served with a pinch of sea salt, 33 Acres’ waffles are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. For extra indulgence diners can choose to add savoury sides such as poached eggs and crispy bacon or a sweet scoop of Earnest Ice Cream.
Although the batter mixture varies from week to week (lavender, ginger bread and coconut just to name a few featured flavours), one ingredient remains the same, and that is a splash of 33 Acres’ beer, which has a way of making the waffles incredibly light and fluffy.
Also available on the weekend are an array of Cartems Doughnuts (which are delivered daily), Nelson the Seagull pastries, Matchstick coffee pour-overs and Notch cold brew coffee. Of course the brewery’s house-brewed ales, or rather a selection of the them, are on offer too (a must order for a majority of mid-morning visitors), and can be ordered either by the glass or as a flight.
Just as appealing as the treats on offer is 33 Acres’ tasting room’s relaxed and aesthetically pleasing setting. The space is bright, clean and has a decidedly hipster minimalist feel to it – think stark white walls, timber accents, potted succulents, a scattering of individual tables and a large communal bench.
Patrons who visit 33 Acres should take the kitchen’s uncomplicated menu as a sign that the chefs do what they do and do it well. So well in fact, the kitchen draws an impressive gathering of people each weekend as soon as the door opens at 10 a.m., thanks to these delicious and straightforward offerings.
