Long weekend means long wait times at Canada-U.S. border

If you’re going to the U.S. to spend your Canadian dollars on par at Bellis Fair Mall, you may want to get a head start – border wait times will be longer than usual.

The Canada Border Services Agency is warning travellers to avoid Peace Arch, the busiest land border crossing in B.C., where 34,729 vehicles were processed this time last year.

Instead, CBSA says shorter waits are more likely at Aldergrove, Abbotsford-Huntingdon or for trucks, Pacific Highway.

Last year, more than 88,849 vehicles entered Canada through one of the five Lower Mainland border crossings over the May long weekend.

For current and forecasted border wait times, check the CBSA’s border wait times updates.

To check exemption limits and possible duties for your crossborder shopping, check the CBSA’s duty calculator.
