Runners from around the world descended upon Vancouver this weekend for the city’s only marathon – and a whole host of extra activities – during the BMO Vancouver Marathon.

The marathon, which started in 1972 with just 32 finishers, has grown into an internationally recognized marathon weekend offering races for everyone.

Ranked one of the top destination marathons in the world, the BMO Vancouver Marathon itself is a scenic Boston Qualifier that takes runners on a 42.2KM (26.2 miles) adventure past beaches, through natural parks, and along Vancouver’s Seawall – the world’s longest uninterrupted waterfront path.

Here are 18 photos from this year’s high-energy event.
