Looks like winter is coming a little early this year.

After a 30cm of snowfall over the weekend, Big White Ski Resort in Kelowna has announced an early start to their 2015/2016 ski season. This Friday, November 13 at 8:45 a.m. will mark the official opening of the earliest season since 2001/2002.

“Our on mountain team works so hard at this time of year to make sure that seasons pass holders and visitors get on the snow as soon as Mother Nature allows,” Michael J. Ballingall, senior vice-president of Big White Ski Resort Ltd. said in a press release. “It’s always been the family’s policy to open a lift as soon as snow permits and it’s safe to do so, and that’s what we’ve done again this year.”

So far this season Big White is currently sitting at 87cm of cumulative snowfall, one of the largest amounts in British Columbia and Alberta, according to a recent report from winter weather website SnowSeekers.

Officials are saying that the Ridge Rock Express Quad chair, the Plaza Quad chair, and Lara’s Gondola will be in operation daily, with runs including Highway 33, Serwa’s, Easy Out, Easy Street, and Hummingbird open to the public.

Until more chairlifts and runs open, skiers and snowboarders will be able to purchase lift tickets for 50% of their regular retail price, which can be purchased via the Big White website.
