On Kitsilano’s West 4th Ave, our tour of the 10 best ice cream spots in Vancouver lands at a little place called Scoop! Mary and Michael Ho were seriously ahead of the curve when they opened this frozen yogurt shop in 2008. Even in the face of increased competition, Scoop! has remained a local favourite with fun vibes and delicious flavours.
Customers step up to the counter and choose their yogurt flavour and cup size. The staff member dispenses the yogurt, but hands over control when it’s time to do toppings. A beautiful array of bowls and jars are full of colourful additions, which are weighed and charged accordingly at the end of the journey.
While the yogurt process is a happy medium between the Menchie’s and Pinkberry methods, Scoop! sets itself apart with its cozy interior. Art pieces created by talented local artists line the walls, and guests are free to grab a magazine or a board game to play while enjoying their yogurt. Step up to the foosball table or get your gang together for a trivia challenge.
Scoop! is a spot with true Kits character and it makes a great alternative to the frozen yogurt chains currently dominating the ice cream landscape. So next time you’re shopping or beaching in the neighbourhood, you can feel good about treating yourself to a locally imagined dessert.
