Journeying onward through the 10 best ice cream spots in Vancouver (gelato and frozen yogurt included in the list), we find ourselves on Commercial Drive at Dolce Amore. This bright and colourful gelato shop is a favourite in this neighbourhood, where Italian heritage is never in short supply.
Dolce Amore is a family business owned and operated by the Grippo family, whose fourth generation are currently at the helm of the shop. As you line up for gelato, you’ll be looking at walls lined with family photos and other distinctly Italian memorabilia.
Tiramisu, a classic Italian dessert, has been translated skillfully into a gelato variety, as have the many other handcrafted flavours modeling in the gelateria’s display case. Once you’ve chosen your flavours, you can also choose a coffee or Italian soda to wash it down with.
So next time you’re strolling The Drive and you feel like a sweet escape, don’t despair. Dolce Amore is there for you like your favourite cousin.
