Go Fish Ocean Emporium

Sitting by Fishermen’s Wharf on Granville Island, Go Fish Ocean Emporium is a fish shack style eatery, serving reliably fresh and tasty fish and chips. Diners can grab a delicious homemade Granville Island beer battered halibut and chips ($12.50), or a lovely grilled fish with salad ($12). It’s more of a take away joint rather than a sit down restaurant, but if inclined to stay there is small attached patio with a handful of tables and chairs. Surrounded by waterfront, Go Fish is a particularly beautiful spot to enjoy this classic British summertime pairing.

Pajo’s

It’s the top spot in Richmond’s Steveston Village for fish and chips, and for good reason. With a delightfully crunchy golden batter Pajo’s fish and chips are simply irresistible. Served on a mound of fresh cut fries in a paper cone and accompanied (always) by Pajo’s signature tartar sauce, Pajo’s fish is moist and flavourful. Customers have the choice between three fish options; Pacific wild cod ($10.48); wild salmon ($11.50), and wild halibut ($10.88).

The Fish Counter

This community seafood shop owned by Ocean Wise co-founders Robert Clark and Mike McDermid, serves up an excellent plate of fish and chips. Patrons visiting The Fish Counter have the choice between a range of local and sustainable Ocean Wise fish including halibut, ling cod, wild salmon and Pacific cod, which come served with fresh cut Kennebc fries and house-made slaw. With limited seating (there are a couple of benches and one standup counter) The Fish Counter’s fresh and well-seasoned fish and chips can either be enjoyed in-house or taken to-go.

Fish Café

This fish and chip spot in Kerrisdale is a long standing favourite with area residents. In addition to a variety of seafood focused snacks and meals (chowder, burgers, salads), Fish Café also offers a small range of well-prepared grilled and deep fried fish. Served on a bed of fries or rice Fish Café’s fish is moist and flakey. With no fixed menu check the restaurant’s board for daily features.

Moby Dick Seafood Restaurant

Located along the beach in White Rock, Moby Dick is a family-operated local dine-in and take-out restaurant that has kept both locals and visitors happy with their fresh-tasting seafood since 1975. With a variety of fish and chips combos, varying in size mainly, diners have the choice between one through to five pieces of homemade battered Alaskan cod. There’s also the option of the Moby Dick Barrel of Fish and Chips ($61.90) – a platter comprised of thirteen pieces of fish, a mountain of golden fries and tartar sauce.

Cockney Kings

For great quality fish and chips in Burnaby you can’t go past Cockney Kings. Located at 6574 Hastings Street, Cockney Kings offers both eat-in and take-out dining options. There’s a range of delicious one piece or two piece fish and chip combos, featuring crunchy battered cod, haddock, halibut or salmon, and addictively salty homemade chips.
