Drinking and driving never helped anybody, but thanks to a new event you could help hungry people around Metro Vancouver by driving your drink.
At the Beer Can Derby Vancouver 2015, contestants race beer can cars of their own design on a downhill track 60 feet long. Each car has to feature one recognizable beer can as part of its design, but besides that attendees can go wild. From Mad Max-esque murder cars to something befitting Speed Racer, let your creative juices flow.
Trophies and prizes are awarded for the winner in each of the three weight classes (Crusher, Tall Boy, and Oil Can), as well as “Best in Show” and the “Brewer’s Cup.” Prizes include a trip to Whistler, a cruiser bike, a home brewing kit, and more.
All proceeds from the event go to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, which provides support for thousands of people in Metro Vancouver.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online.
When: Sunday, November 8; 1 p.m.
Where: Wise Hall – 1882 Adanac Street, Vancouver
