Remember the curious joy of finding out what was underneath that rock during a field-trip to the beach?
Well, turn that discovery dial up to 11 and you’ve got Botanical Beach.
Full of sea creatures and ocean life, this place is brimming with things to see. An entire day can be eaten up just by staring at all the wondrous things at your feet! Add in the beautiful rainforest surrounding the beach, the scenic hike, and the always stunning Pacific Ocean and you’ve got yourself one genuine BC oasis.
Where is it?
Botanical Beach is located on the West shore of Vancouver Island. It sits in the Juan De Fuca Provincial Park just southwest of Port Renfrew.
How do you get there?
Port Renfrew is a two hour drive north from Victoria along the Juan De Fuca Highway. Once there, Botanical Beach parking lot is another six minutes down the road, and a 15-20 minute walk gets you from there to the beach.
What’s there?
A whole lot, to put it plainly. Hundreds of plant and animal species call Botanical Beach home, along with thousands of invertebrates and algae species.
The hardiest of organisms cling to the beach’s rocks, and grey whales and killer whales have been spotted further out into the ocean. The beach also boasts interesting geological features, with pools that have been gentle carved by years of waves.
