One of BC’s Top Employers for 2018, Ritchie Bros. Financial Services (RBFS), is now hiring.

The firm is seeking account managers and they’re hosting a sales hiring fair on Wednesday, June 27 at their BC headquarters in Burnaby.

The Financial Services team specializes in equipment financing solutions for construction, transportation, agriculture and other industries. The revenue driven by this team increased by 43% in quarter 1 of 2018. And this explosive growth has propelled their hiring demand.

But you don’t have to take our word on the matter (or the fact that commission is uncapped for sales positions). We spoke to Ritchie Bros. Financial Services’ director of sales, Chris Quinn, to find out what makes this company stand out from the noise.

Can you tell us what makes your company one of BC’s Top Employers for 2018?

“We have a LEED-certified Global headquarters in Burnaby with an on-site cafeteria, child care centre, and fully equipped gym. We offer unlimited career opportunities and offer a diverse and inclusive team-oriented environment,” says Chris Quinn.

Quinn notes that the company also hosts social events, gives back to the community, employs corporate responsibility, and offers family-friendly policies. “We encourage employees to recruit their friends with generous new employee referral bonuses.”

What does your ideal candidate look like?

“Our ideal sales candidate is someone that’s motivated to control their own financial destiny, while still working in a fast-paced and somewhat competitive environment – without forgetting we’re all one team! We tend to be far less focused on a resume and/or previous experience of a potential candidate, as we are making sure that they have the right ‘DNA’ for the job, as well as ensuring that the job will deliver on their expectations for what they’re seeking in a career.”

What makes working for this team different?

“We are a rapidly-growing, highly innovative, tightly knit group – like what you’d expect at a start-up – but also benefit from having the stability and resources as a global multi-billion dollar company. We offer tons of growth opportunity, a chance to join a great team, and we’re constantly finding ways to disrupt the industry’s largest players.”

What incentives do you offer?

“Our sales roles are base salary plus unlimited commissions and quarterly bonuses. You will be compensated for your hard work and high levels of customer service.” Quinn explains how RBFS also believes in “rewards and recognition” when it comes to their team.

That’s why the company offers some pretty awesome incentives for its staff:

  • Sales Annual Excellence Club Trip: This is a seven-day all-inclusive, all expenses paid trip for you and a guest to a five-star resort somewhere warm and sunny. All you have to do is “achieve your Annual Club Trip Target and punch your ticket to paradise. In 2017, we had over 60 people attend in Mexico.”
  • Mid-Year Club Trip: Fishing trips in the summer, and other activities – whether it’s pub nights, softball tournaments, or Seattle Seahawks football games.
  • LEED Gold building amenities including a free 24/7 gym, free parking and electric charging stations, car and dry cleaning services, group RRSP and employee share purchasing plan with company matching, subsidized cafeteria, and on-site daycare.

Do you encourage a work-life balance? How do you implement strategies to promote this?

“Our working hours are somewhat flexible given the seasonality of our business and we are constantly finding ways to appreciate our team members outside of the office with fun events. At any given day, you will see our team members heading out to shoot some hoops or taking some downtime to walk the trails along the Fraser River when the weather permits or attending an instructor-led fitness class in our phenomenal gym facility on-site.”

What kind of experience is needed for the account manager position?

“We hire a diverse range of candidates ranging from recently graduating post-secondary to people with many years in sales and/or finance. We offer best-in-class training to get our new hires set for success in our business regardless of their previous work experience.”

How would you describe a typical workday at RBFS?

“We have access to North America’s largest database of used heavy equipment buyers. Each morning, the sales team comes into the office with leads of winning bidders populated from the prior day’s auctions. Many of these customers are already pre-approved for financing or leasing, so we reach out to find the structure and terms of their deal. Each day there’s a team huddle and we ensure every team member has a weekly one-on-one with their manager. We tend to put a lot of focus on our people and their development, which we believe is a key factor to success.”

What would you say to someone who is interested in transitioning from another industry to financial services?

“Nearly all our employees have come to us with little or no experience in financial services. We look for people with a passion for helping customers and a drive to solve new business challenges. If you’re driven by results, value recognition, and like being rewarded – Ritchie Bros. Financial Services will help you bring your career to the next level.”
