The BC Lions have traded 23-year-old quarterback Vernon Adams to the Montreal Alouettes in exchange for Montreal’s 1st round draft pick in the 2017 draft.

A QB with the University of Oregon Ducks last season, Adams’ CFL rights were owned by the Lions. After going undrafted in the NFL, Adams had two unsuccessful tryouts with the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins this year before looking north to prove himself.

Oregon went 7-3 with Adams at quarterback last season. He threw for 2,643 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions during his senior year.

“I could be like a Warren Moon or Doug Flutie,” the 5’11” Adams told reporters. “All I need is a chance. … If they can stop looking at my height and give me a chance they’d get a teammate with a lot of energy and a great leader.”

He’ll get that chance in Montreal.

With 23-year-old Jonathon Jennings set to be the Lions’ starting quarterback next season, and veteran Travis Lulay available as a back-up, Adams would have been competing for the third-string QB spot in Lions camp.
