The adverse weather has forced BC Ferries to suspend crossings between the Mainland and Vancouver Island.

In a tweet that was sent out Friday afternoon BC Ferries confirmed that crossings were cancelled due to conditions in the Strait of Georgia.

The cancellations follow a special weather statement from Environment Canada warning that gusts of up to 80 km/hr are set to batter BC’s south coast.
Heavy rainfall is not expected to develop until Saturday, when the region could see upwards of 50 mm.
