BC Children's Hospital warns of fraudulent emails sent to donors

The BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF) is sending out a warning to the public after a string of phishing emails have been reported.

The emails targeted individuals who donated to the foundation via PayPal. The BCCHF confirms that the email is from neither them or PayPal and is a “fraudulent attempt to gain access to your PayPal account.

Anyone who has received a suspicious email is warned to not click the link, but rather forward the email to [email protected] and delete the email shortly after.

Anyone who did click the link is advised to log on to their account, review any recent transactions, and change the password immediately.

PayPal explains that they will never address the recipient as “Dear valued customer” or “Dear buyer,” and an email will never ask for sensitive information like a password, bank account, or credit card.

The BCCHF notes that all data has not been compromised and remains secure.
