Attempted abduction of girl in Abbotsford leads to arrest

Sep 20 2016, 12:00 am

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in Abbotsford after the attempted abduction of a teenage girl on Saturday.

Abbotsford Police said the attack occurred when the girl was waiting at a bus stop on Old Yale Road, near Mitchell Street around 5:15 pm.

A man drove past the girl several times, before parking and approaching her on foot. He then tried to lure her into his van by offering her liquor and a ride to work.

The girl refused, but the man grabbed her and tried to pull her towards his van. She continued to resist, and was eventually assisted by a passerby.

The Good Samaritan yelled at the man, who then fled. The passerby stayed with the girl until her bus came, then left.

Abbotsford Police are now appealing for the Good Samaritan to speak to investigators.

“Not only were his actions commendable, we feel he may be able to provide important information to us as a witness,” said a release from Abbotsford Police Department.
