Asian hawker-style charcoal grill satay and octopus is coming exclusively to Hawkers Market from the hottest newcomer chef in Vancouver, Ling Wong.
This is not a food truck, we are talking about serious badass outdoor charcoal Asian hawker-style street eats from Chef Ling Wong, who goes by the nickname EzLING.
“Ling takes food seriously,” says Chris Jerome at Hawkers. “I knew we were on to something incredible when I got her initial email about cooking at Hawkers and she told us how much she loathed jarred peanut butter.” Wong’s innovative eats represents “the sort of cooking food lovers dream about,” adds Jerome.
Wong has two ambitious dishes ready to hawk up on February 28 at the Hawkers Market. Dish one is the Spanish Galician Octopus, otherwise known as Pulpo a la Gallega. The octopus is traditionally boiled in a large copper cauldron with bay leaves, peppercorn and garnished with smoked paprika, rock salt and olive oil, and comes tender with a with a pleasant salinity of the ocean.
The second dish is Hawker-Style Satay. This is charcoal-grilled outdoors before your very eyes on a specially designed grill for satay, just like you’ve seen in all those mouth watering television travel shows.
