I guess Bayern Munich knew what they were doing.
After taking time off while Vancouver Whitecaps management finalized an MLS-record transfer to one of the most famous soccer clubs in the world, Alphonso Davies returned to action on Saturday.
Boy did he ever.
The Whitecaps marketing department had been selling “see Alphonso Davies in action,” but I bet they weren’t expecting to see what they saw against Minnesota United at BC Place. He played the best match of his career.
Davies had two goals and two assists, all of which were of the highlight-reel variety, in a 4-2 Whitecaps win.
“I love playing football, it’s my passion and being away for two weeks, sitting on the side, you’re itching to get on the field and when I got my opportunity,I took it,ā Davies told reporters after the match.
Alphonso’s pace and dribbling ability was on full display, as he made Minnesota defenders look silly on these two goals:

He set up Yordy Reyna to open the scoring…

And unselfishly dished off to Kei Kamara for the 3-0 goal.
Davies ā” Kamara ā” back of the net.
Where have we seen that before?

The 17-year-old was noticeable away from the goals and assists, doing stuff like this:

Davies became the first MLS player since 2010 to score two goals, two assists, and complete eight successful dribbles.
