The Ultimate Vancouver Brunch Guide: Alibi Room

Jun 2 2016, 6:08 am

We’re taking a tasty tour of Vancouver’s many brunches to create The Ultimate Vancouver Brunch Guide. This week we’re enjoying a laid-back late-morning bite (and drink) at the Alibi Room.

If you’re looking for a casual weekend brunch joint, where the meals are tasty and a beer or two at brunch is commonplace, then make a point to drop by the Alibi Room.

Located at 157 Alexander Street, in Vancouver’s evolving Railtown district, the Alibi Room is a modern tavern, which has made quite a name for itself, thanks to its vast selection of beer.

With such a huge beer list (Alibi Room has 50 taps of local and imported craft beer), the Alibi Room is definitely a spot where you would expect the drinks to be great, but the food is also excellent. Not pretending to be fancy, the Alibi Room focuses on honest cooking and uncomplicated flavours.

Under the leadership of Head Chef Greg Armstrong, Alibi Room’s brunch menu (like its dinner counterpart) is extremely approachable and features local, free-run, ocean-friendly and naturally-raised foods. The Alibi Room is proud to serve Rabbit River Farms organic local eggs and Two Rivers handmade sausages and meats.

Serving more of a breakfast than a lunch style brunch, Alibi Room offers patrons the choice between a toasted breakfast sandwich, Huevos Rancheros, scrambled eggs, French Toast, a variety of Eggs Benny plates, and more.

Give your tastebuds a wakeup call with the Alibi Room’s Big Brekky plate. Consisting of two eggs (prepared as you please), with roasted potatoes, toast and the choice of a breakfast sausage, back bacon or R&B Beer cured chorizo, this dish is deliciously simple.

Suitably laid-back, the Alibi Room won’t give a second thought to your order of a mid-morning pint, which is great news for beer lovers. Can’t decide which beer to down? Opt for a “Frat Bat”. With the choice of four beers, this float offers brunch goers the chance to sample an assortment of local beers.

Aside from the fantastic food and drink offerings, the Alibi Room also provides its patrons with a comfortable open-concept space to kick back and enjoy a lingering meal. Lounge, bar, and communal tables ensure ample seating for all, and the absence of TVs, mean that the Alibi Room is filled with a cheery low-drum chatter rather than sports.

With friendly and efficient service, a relaxed vibe and a great-tasting brunch menu, the Alibi Room ranks high among the casual eateries around town. Note, from 11:30 a.m. onwards the restaurant starts to fill up, so to assure yourself a seat it’s best to turn up before then.
