Actor Alan Rickman dies at 69

Actor Alan Rickman, known widely for his role as Professor Snape in Harry Potter, Hans Gruber in Die Hard, and the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, has died at the age of 69.

The London native was suffering from cancer and succumbed to the illness, his family said in a statement.

Rickman starred in dozens of films, TV shows, and theatre productions, and was nominated for and won many awards, including a BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, Emmy Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award.
