Police received a little bit of unexpected help from Mother Nature during an overnight incident in Abbotsford this past weekend.

The story begins around 2 am on Sunday morning, when Abbotsford Police (APD) received reports of an “erratic driver” in a black Honda.

Upon running the licence plate numbers, the vehicle was found to be stolen, prompting a further response from APD.

Police “moved in” and the vehicle turned into a dead end street, “drove through a fence and hit a house trying to get away,” explained APD Const. Ian MacDonald.

MacDonald told Daily Hive the incident came to a close after the driver “ultimately got stuck in the mud in a farm field,” off Beaton Road, near Riverside Street.

The driver, a 36-year-old man from Port Coquitlam, was arrested at the scene.

The passenger, a 31-year-old woman, was detained by police for questioning and then released.
