A 48-year-old man is dead after hitting a tree while driving in Abbotsford early Friday morning.

At 1:15 am, Abbotsford Police responded to calls about a single vehicle crash in the 2800 block of Ash Street.

APD Patrol Division officers, Abbotsford Fire Rescue members and BC Ambulance staff attended the scene and located a Honda Civic that had gone off-road and collided with a tree.

The man, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle was found in “grave condition,” Abbotsford Police said in a release.

He was extricated from the vehicle and transported to hospital where he passed away a short time later.

“We extend condolences to the family and friends of this man,” police said.

APD Patrol and Collision Reconstructionists will be on scene for several hours and morning commuters should take alternate routes.
