6 JUNO events for all ages to enjoy in Vancouver this weekend

JUNO Week is in full swing ahead of the highly-anticipated awards this coming Sunday, March 25.

Michael BublĂ© is set to host the JUNO Awards ceremony which will be taking place at Rogers Arena. Don’t worry if you don’t have tickets to attend; the ceremony will be broadcast nationwide so you won’t miss out on any of the action.

You can start your JUNO celebrations as early as Friday, March 23 because there’s a wide range of all-ages events happening throughout the city (many of which are free).

To help you plan your weekend, here’s a list of six fun JUNO festivities that you can attend.

Let’s Hear It! Live – Vancouver

When: March 23 and 24

  • March 23: 12 to  9 pm
  • March 24: 9 am to 9 pm

Where: Vancouver Art Gallery, North Plaza – 850 West Georgia Street 
Admission: Free to attend

This two-day outdoor music festival is brought to you by Let’s Hear It BC – JUNO Host Committee, and will see the city join together at the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza. BC’s top talent from a wide range of music scenes will be showcased at the event. Expect unforgettable moments with surprise special guest performers and collaborations throughout the two days of performances. Junior JUNOS Presented by CBC Kids

When: March 24
Time: 9:30 am (doors at 9 am) to 12:30 pm
Where: Vancouver Art Gallery, North Plaza – 850 West Georgia Street 
Admission: Free to attend

The Junior JUNOS presented with CBC Kids take over the Let’s Hear It! LIVE stage for a morning of movin’ and groovin’ in the heart of the city. You can bring the whole family and put on your dancing shoes to see featured nominees for Children’s Album of the Year perform live. Hosted by CBC Kids friends Tony and Gary the Unicorn, the Junior JUNOS will be brought to life with music and interactive activities for fans of all ages. Performers include Big Block Singsong, Bobs & LoLo, The Moblees, and Splash’N Boots.

MusiCounts StarBand with Dear Rouge

When: March 24
Time: 3 to 4 pm
Where: Vancouver Art Gallery, North Plaza – 850 West Georgia Street 
Admission: Free to attend

Enjoy a special performance by the MusiCounts StarBand on March 24 accompanied by JUNO Award winners, Dear Rouge. This group is a unique multi-school wind orchestra featuring 65+ students from Vancouver-area schools, in honour of the MusiCounts Band Aid Program. The orchestra will be led by Mark Reid, Education Chair, 2018 JUNO Host Committee and 2013 MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award recipient.

#Singitfwd: JUNO Award Edition

When: March 21
Time: 7 pm
Where: Vogue Theatre – 918 Granville Street
Price: $25 – $35 – Tickets available via TicketFly

More than years after its final show, #Singitfwd is coming back with a special JUNO Award edition. This all-ages performance features Hey Ocean, the children’s choir at Saint James Music Academy, and more for Vancouver’s acclaimed charity concert at the Vogue Theatre. It brings together more than eigth artists performing short stripped-down sets of music while raising awareness for non-profit music schools.

JUNO Fan Fare

When: March 24
Time: 12 – 3 pm
Where: Metropolis at Metrotown – 4700 Kingsway, Burnaby
Price: Free – Register online via JUNO Awards

JUNO Cup Presented by CBC Sports

When: March 23
Time: 7:30 pm
Where: Bill Copeland Sports Centre – 3676 Kensington Avenue

Come out to join the all-ages JUNO Cup before the Awards ceremony. You can catch NHL legends and amazing Canadian musicians face off in a non-contact fundraising hockey game. The proceeds from JUNO Cup will go towards supporting Musicounts, Canada’s music education charity. JUNO Cup is a fun, family-friendly event.
