It’s Thursday! The long weekend is almost here and it’s time to get ready for Canada Day.

In the meantime, here are 5 things to do in Vancouver today, from an artistic taxidermy collection to a Canada Day long weekend party starter.

All Together Now

  • What: The Museum of Vancouver is open late on Thursdays so this is an ideal time to see its latest exhibition of the weird and wonderful stuff collected by the residents of Vancouver, including artistic taxidermy, artificial eyeballs and antique corsets.
  • Where:  Museum of Vancouver – 1100 Chestnut Street, Vancouver
  • When: On display through January 8, 2017
  • Tickets: At the MOV, usual museum entry is $15 full price or $11 for students; last Thursday evening of the month by donation instead.

Purple Rain & Under the Cherry Moon Double Bill

  • What: Due to overwhelming demand, there’s even more Prince showing at the Rio this week, both cult hits with killer soundtracks. First up is Purple Rain, based loosely on Prince’s life story. Next is Prince’s directorial debut Under the Cherry Moon.
  • Where:  Rio Theatre – 1660 E Broadway, Vancouver
  • When: Thursday, June 30, Purple Rain doors at 7 pm, movie at 7:30 pm, Under the Cherry Moon doors at 9:35 pm, movie at 9:45 pm
  • Tickets: At the Rio, priced $10 in advance, $12 at the door, for one film, or watch the whole double bill for $13 in advance or $15 at the door.

Glitter is Forever

  • What: The Queer Arts Festival‘s final blowout! Revel in community, effervescent refreshments, karaoke and drag, with performances by Rose Butch, Alma Bitches and Grimm. Hosted by the infamous Shanda Leer, with karaoke in between the acts.
  • Where:  The Waldorf Hotel – 1489 East Hastings Street, Vancouver
  • When: Thursday, June 30, from 8 pm to 1 am
  • Tickets: At Eventbrite, priced $8.50

The Holy Roller Revue

  • What: A new monthly musical showcase featuring new and established country, roots, folk and gospel artists, including The Wayward Hearts, Mac Pontiac, The Sojourners, Christie Rose and Just a Season. Expect fiddles, banjos and accordion.
  • Where:  The Fox Cabaret – 2321 Main Street, Vancouver
  • When: Thursday, June 30, from 8 pm to 1 am
  • Tickets: On Eventbrite, priced $8.

Long Weekend Party Starter – Canada Day

  • What: Where elegant Jazz meets Street spoken word and hip hop! A special Canada Day edition, featuring Baron Vaughn Swenson, Sam Chimes, DJ Rmote, Adrian Salcedo, Jill, Good and Miracle Dance. Get there early – the first 50 people get pizza!
  • Where:  Aura Nightclub – 1180 Granville Street, Vancouver
  • When: Thursday, June 30, from 9 to 11 pm
  • Tickets: On Eventbrite, priced $10 in advance, $16 on the door. Entry includes one drink. A portion of proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders.
