5 lip colours to spice up your look

A new year is here, and with that comes the opportunity to revive your look. Diets, haircuts and a new wardrobe may seem like the best options, but lip stick is a quick and affordable way to make you feel polished and ready to take on 2015. Elizabeth Taylor’s favourite piece of advice always was to “put some lip stick on and pull it together.” Here are five lip colours to help you do just that:

1. A classic red

There is no better way to add some sophistication to any look than to throw on a red lip. Pair it with bare skin and a few coats of mascara and you’ll exude effortless class. NARS Velvette Lip Pencil is an easy-to-apply lip colour that withstands an entire evening of sipping champagne or a day of drinking coffee at your desk. Mysterious Red is a universally flattering colour that is the perfect addition to any ensemble.

2. A hot collaboration

MAC recently teamed up with edgy women’s wear brand, Nasty Gal to offer some seriously beautiful new lip colours. These three new colours will up the ante on any outfit. There will be a shade for every taste with a classic matte red, a dramatic burgundy and a deep purple for the risk-taker. Get ‘em while there hot!

3. For the minimalist

Are you one of those women that prefer chapstick to a tube of lipstick? Don’t worry—there are options for you too! Fresh makes an amazing tinted lip treatment that leaves your lips looking pretty and feeling moisturized. A quick swipe of this and you can transform your daytime face into a party-ready look. All the shades are beautiful, but I am particularly obsessed with the Sheer Rosy Tint.

4. A bargain

I recently struck gold in the drug store beauty department. For less than $10, Revlon Plum Velour is a bold colour that actually stays on. I have worn it a number of times since I purchased it and love how it works just as well with jeans and tee as it does with a dress and heels. If you want to take the plum trend a little further, check out Revlon Black Cherry. It is affordable way to test out a look that not everyone can carry off.

5. The Lipstick-gloss

I’ve met some people who don’t like lipstick. Personally, I think they are nuts, but they apparently find it drying and hard to apply. Enter, the not quite lipstick. Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Black Honey is a foolproof way to wear a bold lip. This sheer colour dresses up any look and is easy to layer over other shades.

Peace, love and lipstick. Enjoy!
