The success of the Canadian women and a resurgent men’s team has local soccer fans flocking to BC Place.

With only three weeks until the Canadian men host rivals Mexico, the Canadian Soccer Association announced on Friday that over 40,000 tickets have already been sold for the big game, and have opened additional areas of BC Place to meet the demand for one of the hottest tickets in Vancouver.

Canadian head coach Benito Floro and his team will be eager to build on last November’s 1-0 victory over Honduras, a victory in which Canada’s “12th man” at BC Place played an important role. That evening the 20,108 boisterous Maple Leaf waving fans set an attendance record for a Canadian Men’s National Team match played in British Columbia, and in less than four months Vancouver has already smashed that record.

If Canada can progress through the current round of qualifying they face the extremely tough challenge of having to play through the notorious CONCACAF Hex to ultimately qualify for Russia 2018. It’s a long and very difficult road for a team whose only World Cup appearance was at Mexico 1986.

The upcoming match is scheduled for Friday, March 25 at 7 p.m.
