Have you always wanted a feline companion? It’s now the purrfect time to adopt a cat that is in dire need of a home!

The dog and cat days of summer mean local rescues and shelters are packed with healthy animals readily available for adoption.

The Coquitlam Animal Shelter alone has more than 40 cats available for adoption, in addition to a few litters of kittens in need of care. The animals were found and rescued within the jurisdictions of Coquitlam and Port Moody.

However, a spokesperson with the shelter told Vancity Buzz that this is normal activity during the summer months when more strays are found and impounded. There are also more litters during this time of year due to the peak in the female feline reproductive cycle.

The Coquitlam Animal Shelter is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and holidays. The shelter hopes to find permanent, loving homes for at least 30 of the animals by the end of the month.
