Development Buzz: 2290 Main Street

By DH Vancouver Staff, DH Vancouver Staff Feb 06, 2013 8:31 am

This new concept design is proposed for 2290 Main Street, the old car dealership site at Main/Kingsway and 7th, in the heart of Mount Pleasant. This stunning building designed by AMA (Arno Matis Architecture Inc.) would be a welcome departure from the traditional glass and brick designs being incorporated in the majority of new Mount Pleasant developments.

These days it seems Vancouver’s low to mid rise residential buildings are more interesting than the high rise developments. You have the skybridge building, Central, also on Main Street and the proposed 955 East Hastings mixed industrial/residential building along with a few others in Mount Pleasant and Kitsilano.

However, a few interesting projects such as the BIG Tower at Beach and Howe and Vancouver’s soon to be second tallest tower, the twisting hotel/residential tower on West Georgia are definitely a few notches up architecturally compared to your standard Vancouver tower.
