1,600 people attend Vancouver Airport Outlet Mall job fair

McArthurGlen has deemed this past weekend’s job fair for Vancouver Airport Outlet Mall a major success on all accounts.

Approximately 1,600 people attended the job fair held at River Rock Casino on Friday and Saturday in hopes of filling the 600 positions available at the new luxury and fashion outlet shopping centre opening soon next to the Canada Line’s Templeton Station on Sea Island.

Just before doors opened on Friday, there were already more than 50 applicants lining up outside waiting to get in.

McArthurGlen organized the job fair, but interviews were conducted by the many brands that will be housed in the first phase of the outlet centre. The brands are the entities offering the jobs, which include positions in retail management, operations and sales in both full-time and part-time capacities.

“We had a terrific turn out this weekend for the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Career Fair,” Robert Thurlow, general manager of McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Vancouver Airport, told Vancity Buzz. “The McArthurGlen team were on hand to greet and introduce applicants to brands, who, in turn, were thrilled with the calibre of attendees.”

The company also says they have received multiple accolades from retailers who said this was one of the best career fair’s they had ever attended and they were blown by the level of potential candidates.

The first phase of the open-air outlet centre is scheduled to open later this spring. It consists of 240,000 square feet of space for 80 retail shops. This will be followed by a second phase in about two years which will increase the mall footprint to 400,000 square feet and grow the mall to 150 stores.

Metro Vancouver shoppers and visitors can expect year-round savings of up to 70 per cent at brands that do not have an existing physical presence in the region, including Giorgio Armani, Abercrombie & Fitch, Calvin Klein and Diesel.
