  • What: Learn about the life of Robert Schumann through his music. Pianist Barry Tan, with guests Ben Goheen, Peter Ing and Will Chen will perform three Schumann works from different periods in the composer’s life while recounting fascinating episodes that are representative of each phase.

The Capital Bacon Eating Contest

  • What: A chance to stuff yourself with bacon while supporting a good cause. Teams are organized in heats and groups, each plate of bacon will weigh the same amount, and each round will be 40 seconds long. Each heat/group will have a winner and will face off against other winners until an “ultimate bacon champion” is crowned.

Apple Festival at UBC Botanical Garden

  • What: The Apple Festival features approximately 34,000 lbs of organic and conventionally grown apples available for sale to thousands of apple fans. Taste up to 60 varieties of new and heritage BC-grown apples for just $5. There will also be a children’s area and live entertainment.
  • When: Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15
  • Time: 11 am to 4 pm
  • Where: UBC Botanical Garden – 6804 SW Marine Drive, Vancouver
  • Tickets: Admission is $5 cash for adults; children 12 and under are free. Festival admission includes entry to UBC Botanical Garden.

Higher Goods Market

  • What: A new marketplace is opening in Vancouver selling, amongst other pot products, cannabis-infused edibles. Higher Goods Market is 19+ only and is intended to help people “access education, industry experts, high quality products, and have questions answered.” It will also feature vendors selling packaged consumables from producers of cannabis-infused edibles, topicals, tinctures, supplements, extracts, oils, crafts, and local goods.

Chefs’ Table Society of BC’s Slow Fish Dinner
