You don’t need to visit a hot, tropical beach during winter to enjoy some incredible surfing — you can score some impressive winter swells right here in Toronto.

It turns out the southern edge of our city is home to some pretty incredible surf spots during the colder months, including Woodbine Beach, Ashbridge’s Bay, and the Scarborough Bluffs.

September and October are typically the best months to enjoy cold-water surfing in Ontario, as the air and the water aren’t too cold to stand, but thanks to improving wetsuit technology, dedicated surfers who can’t wait for the warmer months can still enjoy the waves.

While winter surfing in Ontario has been around for ages, it’s really starting to pick up steam thanks to social media and people sharing photos of surfers in the frigid Ontario lakes online.

But don’t worry, you don’t have to suit up and paddle out to experience the rush of winter surfing, just check out these incredible photos shared by dedicated Ontario surfers below.
