US could ban laptops on all flights into and out of the country (VIDEO)

On Fox News Sunday, US Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly told host Chris Wallace that he is considering banning laptops on all flights into and out of the country.

Wallace asked Kelly point blank, “Are you going to ban laptops from the cabin on all international flights both into and out of the US?”

Kelly’s response? “I might.”

When asked to expand, Kelly went on to say:

There’s a real threat, there’s numerous threats against aviation, that’s really the thing that they’re obsessed with, the terrorists, the idea of knocking down an airplane in flight, particularly if it’s a US carrier, particularly if its full of mostly US folks, people. It’s real.

Wallace then pressed Kelly on when he could make the decision on his ‘might’ and was simply told that Homeland Security is “still following the intelligence” and “working incredibly close with friends and partners around the world.”

Kelly does say, however, that while they’re still in the process of defining this potential ban Homeland Security and the TSA are “going to raise the bar for, generally speaking, aviation security much higher than it is now.” Adding, “It is a real, sophisticated threat, and I’ll reserve that decision until we see where it’s going.”

What’s more, Kelly says it’s likely the TSA will further tighten security for carry-on luggage in the near future.

With millions of Canadians travelling into and out of the US every year, many for work, this ban could cause significant delays in productivity, not to mention security lines.

The exchange between Wallace and Kelly on the future of airport security begins at 8:25 in the video below.
