Update: High Park cherry blossoms have survived the ice storm

Apr 18 2018, 10:51 pm

Despite the atrocious spring weather we’ve been having in Toronto, the High Park cherry blossoms remain in good shape as they head towards full bloom.

According to Sakura in High Park’s latest update, the buds have not only survived the weekend ice storm, they even look healthy despite it!

Because of this, Sakura in High Park believes that the buds could potentially bloom in the weeks ahead.

However, in previous years, a later bloom date means “the less amount of blooms will actually occur,” reads the Sakura Watch website.

“This is because some buds may go straight to leaf and bypass creating blossoms altogether.”

But if the warm weather forecasted for the weekend and into next week makes an appearance, it would help reduce the stress on the trees and get the buds development stages back on track.
