A beautiful new rose garden is opening near Toronto this month

Nothing says summer quite like a garden of fresh flowers.

And on Saturday, June 23, the largest botanical garden in Canada is unveiling its new, rejuvenated rose garden.

Located just over 45-minutes west of Toronto in Burlington is the Royal Botanical Garden, which has been home to the Centennial Rose Garden since 1967.

However, due to the effects of pesticide laws, changing climates, and disease-prone roses, the garden has lost some of its beauty in recent years.

With the hopes of extending seasonal interest and keeping diseases at bay, the Royal Botanical Garden has been completing its new rose garden, which will feature a spectacular display of roses and companion plants.

According to the Royal Botanical Gardens website, the new and improved rose garden focuses on disease resistant, disease-tolerant, and cold-hardy roses, including Canadian introductions.

The new rose garden will be innovative, sustainable and inspiring, making it the “quintessential rose garden for Canada’s largest botanical garden.”

If you’re looking for a great way to spend a sunny afternoon this summer, we recommend heading to the garden. While you’re there enjoy 27 km of hiking and walking trails, three other gardens, and much more, all part of the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve.
