5-year-old girl dies after being struck by 'unoccupied' vehicle in front of school

A five-year-old girl has died after being struck by an unoccupied vehicle outside of her school.

Police say that on Monday, January 15 at 3:20 pm, they responded to a personal injury collision call on Ianhall Road.

The collision, which took place in front of St. Raphael Catholic School, involved a 42-year-old man and the girl walking near a Mercedes Benz SUV, parked on the east side of Ianhall Road.

According to police, an unoccupied 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe, for reasons not yet determined, began moving eastbound on Ianhall Road, towards the parked Mercedes Benz SUV

Police say the Hyundai struck both pedestrians, then struck the Mercedes Benz SUV.

The five-year-old girl received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The 42-year-old man received non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
