Man dead, police officer shot after incident in Toronto's east end

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the shooting of a man and a police officer in Scarborough.

According to the SIU, shortly after midnight on June 7, Toronto Police responded to a call regarding an armed man in the Warden Avenue and Hymus Road area.

When police arrived, officers located the man in a vehicle outside of a pub.

The SIU says that there was an exchange of gunfire between officers and the man. The man was struck with bullets multiple times and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An officer was also struck and taken to hospital for treatment.

At this time, six investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to this incident, according to the SIU.
