Driver throws cup of coffee in parking officer's face after getting ticket

Toronto police have arrested a man following an assault on a Parking Enforcement Officer on Tuesday evening.

At approximately 6:30 pm on September 12, police say a Parking Enforcement Officer was issued tickets in the Portland Street and Queen Street West area when a man became upset with the officer.

It is alleged the 22-year-old man followed the officer as he drove away. The man then accelerated his car at a high speed, drove into oncoming traffic downtown, and chased the Parking Enforcement Officer down in the Portland Street and King Street West area.

While cornered at a traffic light, the man threw a full cup of coffee at the officer, hitting him in the face.

Oakville resident Omar Darkhabani was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.

Darkhabani is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Monday, October 16.
