Oct 9 2018, 10:37 pm

A male pedestrian was killed in the area of Queen Street East and Broadview Avenue Monday evening after being struck by a streetcar.

Initially, officers said the male was a cyclist, but later confirmed he was a pedestrian crossing the street when he was struck and pinned under the streetcar.

Toronto Police said Queen Street East between the Don Valley Parkway and Broadview Avenue were closed in both directions and streetcar service stopped in the area as authorities carried out their investigation.

TTC executive director Brad Ross said the transit authority is assisting police with their case.

“Our thoughts at this time are with the victim’s family and friends, as well as with our operator,” said Ross in a message posted on Twitter.
