Toronto is getting a limited supply of Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout on Black Friday

Beer lovers from all over Canada come to Toronto to explore our vast craft brewery scene. But there’s one kind of brew that you just won’t find in the city: Goose Island’s Bourbon County Brand Stout.

Bourbon County Brand Stout was first brewed back in 1992, in celebration of the 1000th batch of beer brewed at Chicago’s Goose Island Brewery. You’re probably wondering: What makes this brew so special? For starters, it was the first of its kind.

Nobody was ageing beer in bourbon barrels when Goose Island’s former Brewmaster, Greg Hall, first dreamt up the recipe. Looking around at the craft beer landscape today, you’d be hard-pressed to find another brewery that hasn’t taken a stab at the process. And after all this time, there aren’t many that match Bourbon County Stout’s quality and refinement.

The stout is aged for eight to 12 months in carefully selected bourbon barrels in an environment that lacks temperature control. This detail is incredibly important because it’s the seasonal changes in temperature that cause the beer to be absorbed and desorbed from the wood, maximizing the exchange of flavour and aroma.

Brewers at Goose Island use 100% malt for Bourbon County Stout, and six different malts weighing a total of nearly 5,000 lbs are used in every brewhouse turn. The weather in Chicago is changeable every year and that brings a unique, complex flavour profile of bourbon, chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, vanilla, caramel, and wood to the Bourbon County Stout.

Soon you’ll be able to get a taste of Goose Island’s iconic brew because 108 bottles of Bourbon County Brand Stout 2018 are being released in Toronto on the most appropriate day: Black Friday, November 23.

To get your hands on a bottle, visit LCBO’s Summerhill location at 10 Scrivener Square where doors will be opening at 9 am. Since there are only a limited number of bottles, it’s wise to arrive early as a lineup is expected for this ultimately famed brew.

On the day, Bern Priest-Blais, the head brewer at Goose Island Brewhouse Toronto will be onsite with Afrim Pristine, maître fromager at Ripley Avenue’s Cheese Boutique, talking about the brew and also handing out pastries, cheese, and coffee.

If you don’t make it to LCBO, you still have a chance to taste Bourbon County Brand Stout 2018 at Goose Island Brewhouse Toronto, located at 70 The Esplanade. A limited number of kegs will be released from 6 pm on Black Friday and the brew will be available while supplies last. Get your ticket via Eventbrite now and get ready to savour the stout of your dreams.

Even if you’re not usually a beer drinker, you’re in for a special treat when Bourbon County Brand Stout arrives in Toronto. This brew pours the deepest black imaginable with a creamy, tan foam. Loaded with aromas you’d expect to find in a bakery such as chocolate, vanilla, coconut and red licorice, it’s heaven for dessert lovers.
