1 man dead following shooting near Islington and Rexdale

A man is dead after being shot in the city’s west end Wednesday evening.

This is the city’s eighth homicide of the year.

Police responded to a call at Bergamot Avenue, near Islington Avenue and Rexdale Boulevard, just before 11 pm, according to authorities.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a man lying on the ground outside of the building suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

At this time, police have not released any information on the suspects.

As of Sunday, there have been 30 shootings in the city and 39 victims, compared to 40 occurrences last year and 56 victims at this time, which is down about 30%.
