Well, folks, we’re officially heading into week two of May!

Which means the sights and sounds of summer are finally in reach. But while you patiently anxiously wait for warmer days, you might as well entertain yourself with some of the upcoming Toronto events taking place this week.

Ryan Adams

What: Ryan Adams’ latest Prisoner came out February, marking his 15th release since his 2000 debut album as a solo artist, Heartbreaker. The American singer, producer, and poet returns to the stage this spring, with a stop at our very own Massey Hall. Tickets start at $49.50.

When: May 9 at 8 pm

Food on Film

What: TIFF kicks off its sixth year of this food-centric film series this May. Pairing culinary cinema and guest speakers food, the 2017 season opens with a screening of American Graffiti followed by a chat with Toronto Executive Chef of Parts & Labour and host of the VICE series Dead Set on Life, Matty Matheson.

When: May 10, 7 pm

FNL: Fashion

What: Come and celebrate the fabulous world of fashion as you immerse yourself in the ROM’s collections, and meet local fashion designers. There will also be a series of gallery activations and featured exhibits.

When: May 12, 7 pm to 10 pm
Where: Royal Ontario Museum, 100 Queen’s Park

An evening with Ira Glass

What: Calling all “This American Life” fans: Ira Glass, the creator, producer & host of the award-winning, iconic weekly public radio program will be in Toronto this week!  Also known for his work on the ground-breaking podcast “Serial,” and it’s successor “S-Town,” Ira will be in town for a special evening of storytelling. Glass will mix stories live on stage using audio clips, music, and video, sharing lessons from his life and career. Plus, he’ll answer audience questions with a brief Q&A to close the evening.

Spring into Parkdale Sidewalk Festival & Market

What: The 5th Annual Spring Into Parkdale Sidewalk Festival is back with the largest free outdoor event, attracting thousands of local and neighbouring visitors to the heart of Parkdale Village. Be a part of this vibrant event and help support the arts, community, culture, diversity and shopping local. Make sure to check out the 10,000 square-foot Foodora food market while you’re here!

When: May 13, 12 pm to 6 pm

Ink, Brush & Fork

What: Led by Lisa Carrie Goldberg of Action Potential Lab along with Chef Christopher Showalter (Grapefruit Moon, Tramonto, Weldon Park), this event offers the perfect excuse to play with your food at this intersection of art, science, and food. Participants will dissect their own squid then let chef transform the meat into a grilled dish, while also harvesting ink for painting and print-making.

When: May 14, 6 pm to 9 pm
