14 Toronto events and festivals to check out this September

Just because it’s September doesn’t mean all the fun has left Toronto.

September brings us the return of pumpkin (everything) season, along with some great events and festivals taking place around the city. So don’t give up on summer just yet, check out some of these and fill your September social calendar with more goodness than a pumpkin spice latte.

Fan Expo Canada

  • What: Fan Expo Canada is in its 22nd year, and is the largest comics, sci-fi, horror, anime and gaming event in Canada. The 4-day event will feature panels with legends such as Stan Lee and Kate Mulgrew. Of course, Cosplay is optional.
  • Where: Metro Toronto Convention Centre
  • When: September 1 to 4

BuskerFest

  • What: The Toronto International BuskerFest for Epilepsy Awareness is hitting the beach this year. Besides a new location and dates, there will be no advance schedules, and the events will be spontaneous throughout each day.
  • Where: Woodbine Park, Cowell Ave at Lakeshore Boulevard
  • When: September 2 to 5

Canadian National Exhibition

  • What: There’s still time! If you haven’t checked out this year’s EX yet – you have until the 5th of September to ride the coaster, win the massive stuffed animals, and eat all the delicious treats. So Let’s Go To the EX!
  • Where: 210 Princes’ Blvd.
  • When: On now until September 5

Canadian International Air Show

  • What: Presented by the CNE, the Canadian International Air Show is the largest and longest running aviation display in North America.
  • Where: Off the Canadian National Exhibition grounds over Lake Ontario
  • When: September 3 to 5

Toronto International Film Festival

  • What: One of the biggest festivals of the year takes place this month, and there is nothing like it. Make sure to check out at least some of the Toronto International Film Festival – if not for the movies, at least for those stars.
  • Where: Various venues
  • When: September 8 to 18

Vegetarian Food Festival

  • What: Local and international chefs will delight your tastebuds with a lot of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
  • Where: Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay West
  • When: September 9 to 11

Taste of the Kingsway

  • What: Head West for this year’s Taste of the Kingsway and discover international cuisines, fresh food, and check out a ton of entertainment.
  • Where: The Kingsway (Bloor Street West between Prince Edward Drive and Montgomery Road)
  • When: September 9 to 11

Toronto Craft Beer Cruise

  • What: Boats and booze are always a great mix for summer days. Keep summer going in September at the Toronto Craft Brew Cruise. Two sailings available, at 2 pm and 7 pm.
  • Where: 333 Lakeshore Boulevard
  • When: September 10

Toronto Craft Beer Week

  • What: Who said September is boring? Toronto Beer Week starts on September 16, and will give you a full week of brews and events to fill your fall heart’s desires.
  • Where: Various locations
  • When: September 16 to 24

Toronto Urban Roots Festival

  • What: An incredible line up of musical talent at this year’s Toronto Urban Roots Fest (TURF) with Jimmy Eat World, Death Cab for Cutie, James Bay, Barenaked Ladies and so much more. The 3-day festival includes fest passes or individual day tickets.
  • Where: Fort York Garrison Common, 100 Garrison Road
  • When: September 16 to 18

Toronto Ukrainian Festival

  • What: A three-day entertainment experience celebrating the Ukrainian Canadian community. From music to food, check out this massive Bloor West festival.
  • Where: Bloor West Village

Roncesvalles Polish Festival

  • What: Because summer shouldn’t end. North America’s largest celebration of Polish culture in one of Toronto’s best neighbourhoods, hopefully under warm sunny skies.
  • Where: Roncesvalles Avenue from Queen Street W to Dundas Street W
  • When: September 17 to 18

Word On The Street

  • What: The Word On The Street Toronto celebrates Canadian reading, writing, and champions literacy, primarily through a free, annual outdoor festival.
  • Where: Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay West
  • When: September 25 at 11 am

Toronto Oktoberfest

  • What: Bring out the dirndls and lederhosen! Celebrate everything Bavarian at this year’s Oktoberfest. Get eating, singing and mingling, Toronto.
  • Where: Ontario Place Parking Lot 2
  • When: September 30 to October 1
