Toronto Animal Services looking for volunteers to build dog houses

Give a dog a good home… without taking one home. Toronto Animal Services is looking for volunteers to build dog houses for the East Shelter at 821 Progress Avenue in Scarborough.

The animal shelter is looking to assemble a team of 10 people to build a dozen prefab dog houses to provide temporary shelter in outdoor fenced areas for shelter dogs to get their daily activity. The aim is to have the houses built within a month – which will hopefully coincide with the onset on spring-like weather.

While enthusiasm and a love for dogs is an asset, they’re hoping to find volunteers with an “aptitude for woodworking” and their own tools (hammers, Philips screwdrivers, etc.). They’ll supply space to work, refreshments, dogs to play with, and a tour of the facilities.
