They say you are what you eat.

So it helps to know just how much you’re eating – even if what you’re eating happens to be your favourite drink.

Well, Starbucks is going to start helping you make smarter decisions about that. Starting September 29, 2016, they will begin including calorie information on their menu boards across Canada.

Ever wondered how many calories are in a Pumpkin Spice Latte? Well, if it’s a venti, you’re looking at 470.

That’s the kind of info that might make you order a tall instead (300 calories).

In a press release, Rossann Williams, president of Starbucks Canada had this to say about the decision to be more transparent:

“Menu labelling is yet another step to extend our long-standing commitment to ensuring our customers across Canada have the information they need to make informed decisions.”

Calories will be listed on the menu boards beside each drink, while food will have calorie information tagged onto it (calorie info on food won’t roll out until November 2). The calories listed on the menu boards will represent the standard recipe, but hey, if you want to cut out the sugar, say no to the whip cream, or make any other adjustment, you can certainly cut back on the calorie count even more.

Starbucks isn’t just stopping at menu boards though. The company has also committed to removing all artificial flavours from its beverages by the end of 2017.

Sounds like a sweet move to us.
