Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the deal of a man who fell from Highway 401 early Tuesday morning.

According to the SIU, just before 2 am on September 18, police received multiple calls regarding a man walking eastbound in the Collectors lane of Highway 401 East between Avenue Road and Yonge Street.

The SIU reports that an OPP officer located the man and “engaged with him.”

The man then fled from the officer and ran northbound across four lanes of traffic. Between the 401 Collectors and the 401 Express, there is an open separation, and the man fell through this separation to the ground below.

OPP, Toronto Police Service and Emergency Medical Services provided first aid to the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to this incident.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
