Prince Charles and Camilla crack up laughing during throat singing on Canada tour

Video has emerged showing Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, laughing during a throat-singing performance on their Canadian tour last week.

Their Royal Highnesses had just landed in Iqaluit, in Nunavut, at the very beginning of their three-day tour on Thursday, June 29 when the giggles struck.

Seated at the official welcome ceremony, watching two Inuit throat-singers duelling, Camilla seems to collapse into fits of laughter, as Charles looks on bemused.

Throat-singing, or katajjaq, is a form of music only performed by Inuit people, traditionally women, who sing in duets in a kind of duel to see who can last longer.

Originally, this was a form of entertainment among Inuit women while men were hunting, and was regarded more as a breathing game than a form of music.

Who knows whether Charles and Camilla were laughing at the duelling women, a private joke, or just their own tiredness and jet lag. We’ll let you decide.
