Aimia Inc. and Porter Airlines have struck a new partnership deal, and it could pay off for Aereoplan members.

When Aimia, the operator of Aereoplan, and Air Canada’s current arrangement ends in July 2020, Porter Airlines will become the preferred airline to earn loyalty points.

The announcement includes a cooperative marketing program for existing Aeroplan members with an emphasis on members who travel on Porter routes.

“This is a unique opportunity for Porter to join a well-established travel loyalty program and, in the future, reach its vast member base to aggressively promote our airline,” said Michael Deluce, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Porter Airlines. “Our current VIPorter members will benefit from Aeroplan’s enhanced range of loyalty services, with an ability to earn and redeem points with a growing network of airlines and other brands.”

The privately owned short-haul airline, headquartered in Toronto, currently serves Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, St. John’s, Thunder Bay and US destinations, New York, Boston, Chicago and Washington.

The VIPorter status program will be maintained to deliver benefits for frequent flyers like priority boarding, complimentary seat selection and checked baggage allowances.

Porter’s loyalty points will be converted into Aeroplan miles and Porter passengers will be able to earn and redeem miles on all flights when the agreement goes into effect in 2020.
