Pedestrian killed after car jumped curb in Scarborough

A pedestrian has died and another is seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle in Toronto’s east end early Friday morning.

Police said they responded to a call around 6:49 am in the area of Birchmount Road and Ellesmere Road in Scarborough.

Toronto police said a woman was located unconscious and not breathing, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man was located conscious and breathing and was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

East and westbound Ellesmere is now closed between Birchmount and Rolark Drive, while police investigate.
