PayPal has opened its flagship Canadian office in Toronto.

And it’s a stunner.

The online payment system company has set up shop on the corner of College and University in the MaRS building’s West Tower, alongside other big names like Facebook, Airbnb, and Etsy.

The 7,800 sq. ft. open concept space has floor-to-ceiling windows, 60 work stations, 7 breakout rooms, original graffiti art, a ping pong table, branded bicycles, cold brew coffee on tap, and catered lunches 4 days a week.

The company designed the office with its core values in mind – innovation, collaboration, wellness, and inclusion – as well as making sure to include as much of Toronto and Canada in every corner.

In fact, six of the seven breakout rooms are named after a fun sounding Canadian town (think: Bacon Cove, NL), while the last one is named, what else, Double-Double.

Original artwork from Toronto street artists (and PayPal clients) Jimmy Chiale and Victor Fraser splash the walls and hug the pillars, delivering an urban feel that mirrors the view of busy University Avenue stretching south to the downtown core.

All of the office furniture also comes from PayPal clients, and the currently 25 office employees were allowed to choose their own work space, each also given their own locker for personal items. The flowers in the office are from another PayPal client, Wild North Flowers, while all the groceries are delivered from Urbery.

Sitting down with General Manager Paul Parisi, who came over to PayPal late last summer from American Express, he describes how he expects people to feel when they enter the new office:

What I want is people to get a really quick feeling that this is a place where we’re encouraging an inspiring environment; we have that start up feel but with the clear stability of a $50B cap organization that is not going anywhere.

And he’s pretty bang-on with that description. The PayPal office gives the impression of a company that’s moved successfully past any kind of startup phase but one that still goes after new business like a hungry startup.

Currently, 6.3 million Canadians use PayPal, and the office has capacity for 60 employees, so if you do the math and you like the look of the space, you could soon be spending your days with an (open) corner office.

It turns out that if you spend it right, money PayPal can buy happiness.
