Parkdale community groups organizing to stop Vegandale take-over

With the recent opening of several new vegan restaurants, it seems as though vegans are trying to take over Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood – and some residents simply aren’t feeling the meatless love.

Community groups Parkdale Life and the Parkdale Neighbourhood Land Trust are hosting a forum for locals to “discuss concerns and issues and ask questions about Vegandale.”

At issue for the “group of residents and organizations trying to protect the social, cultural and economic diversity of Parkdale,” is the well-publicized neighbourhood take-over that is being spearheaded by a single company. The 5700 Inc. – the same folks behind DoomiesMythology, and The Imperative, as well as an influx of new businesses Vegandale BreweryCopenhagen Cafe, and NYM ice cream bar that are set to open this week.

A Facebook page for the event invites concerned Parkdale residents to the community forum on Saturday, August 4 at the Milky Way Garden to back demands that Vegandale cancels their recently announced block party until further community consultations take place and that the group “remove and permanently stop Vegandale branding.”
